Great CEOs understand the power of presentation to communicate, engage and inspire. For this 9th article in the 10 “Why Presentations are going to make it big in 2009″ serial I wanted to pay credits to these great leaders. Of course, you won’t be surprised that Steve Jobs comes first (I wish him a fast recovery), but some of the other 9 CEOs may be new to you.
Here are videos of everyone of them presenting:
Can effective presentation totally obliterate common sense?
Do you know the Gruen transfer? It is a captivating Australian television program focusing on advertising. One segment of the show - The Pitch - is really surprising:
Two advertising companies are given a brief to create an advertisement for an “unsellable” product.
There are 6 subjects and 12 videos, some really blow me away.

Good design is very important in the presentation world. It can transform dull bullet-pointed slides into impacting and attractive presentation material. Presentation design is certainly facing a revolution, but it isn’t the hottest place to discover the latest design trends.
This 8th article in the 10 “Why Presentations are going to make it big in 2009″ serial was not written by me. I used the help of Claire who is much more knowledgeable in design than I am. She selected 10 cutting edge design trends from other areas. They can inspire us in our slide design for 2009.
Here is her article and slideshow untouched. Thank you for your contribution Claire.
Design is not an endless quest for beauty and refinement. Design is the meaning of things.

I am a little bit late for this 7th article of the 10 “Why Presentations are going to make it big in 2009″ serial. I was facing a huge challenge. I wanted to include You in this article, because you are the main actor of change in the presentation world, without you presenting better the presentation world won’t improve. Unfortunately it is impossible to include all of you in just 13 slides.
So I selected 10 basic feeling keywords ( love, hate, joy, sad, excited, frustrated, inspired, fear, satisfied and anxious) and search on Twitter for messages containing both one of these keywords and “presentation”. The messages found reflect how concerned you are by presentations (in positive or negative ways) and how lively and full of emotions the presentation world is.
Here are 100 Twitter messages (10 for each keyword) from and for you, I hope you’ll like them.

The Slideshare selection is back on EYP. I was not very happy with the first test, I was not able to organize and present the selection in a compelling way. I thought ahout it and I am now testing a new (and I hope improved) system for the Slideshare selection. I created a group on Slideshare and I have created a visual widget on sproutbuilder. I plan to create a weekly article to gather the latest selections and then to archive the previous selections on a special Selection page.
What do you think of this new organization? Do you have any idea to make it better?

What is one billion dollar?
I like numbers, they are reliable, comparable and universal. They bring credibility to my presentations. But sometimes, for instance when numbers are really huge, they look out of touch and meaningless to me.
Comparing is an effective way to make sense of huge numbers

This is a test article. Or rather this is an experimental article. Indeed I used a brand new feature of SlideShare for this sixth presentation, I added a Youtube video to every item of the selection. I had to try this new technology, because this is an article about the innovative technologies that are changing the presentation world.
Since the slideshow is more thorough than the usual, I will keep the rest of the article very brief. Here are the details of this selection:

This forth articles from the the 10 “Why Presentations are going to make it big in 2009” serial is the simplest and yet the toughest to write for me. It is simple, because I read a lot of blogs about presentation; and yet tough, because there are much more than 10 I wanted to include in this list.
These 10 are all top-notch and you will see that they deal with presentation in very different ways.
Here, in no specific order, is why I enjoy reading them:
A search engine to find free icons for your presentations : Icon Look

I like to add icons to my tactical slides. There are 3 reasons I do that :
- Icons are a simple way for ideas to go visual
- Icons need less screen space than photos to be powerful
- You can use the same icon several times in the same presentation. The viewers will connect places where the same icon is used.
You can find high quality icons on stock sites like iStockPhoto, but they are of course not free. Fortunately, if you have no budget, there are free solutions too. I knew Icon Archive with 22,000 icons, but finding the right icon with the right license there is really a pain…
